5 Months

Happy 5 Months Cole!!!
What have you been up to this month??
  • You weigh a little over 20lbs
  • You are wearing mostly 12-18 month clothes
  • You started eating avocados and sweet potatoes, we'll probably start rice cereal soon
  • Along with the solid foods came some constipation....ugh!!!
  • Along with the solid foods came longer sleep at night...yay!!!
  • You love "peek-a-boo", we love listening to you giggle
  • You love to touch everything, all these new textures are so fun
  • A tooth HAS to come soon, you constantly have your fists or anything for that matter in your mouth, and the drool is out of control
  • We found you on your tummy in the middle of the night, which means you rolled from back to tummy for the first time
  • You love to jump...all the time. You don't like to sit much, just standing and jumping
  • You have sat by yourself for quite awhile, getting better everyday
  • You started doing 360's in your crib, I think you make it around about 3-4 times a night. Still not sure if we should keep the bumper pads in your crib or not.
  • You are sort of starting to have a little separation anxiety, not too bad, but sometimes you fuss when other people take you
  • We truly think you are the cutest baby ever and have brought so much joy to our lives

Cole's friend Nathan

This past weekend, my good friend Jenn from college came to visit. She is from St. Louis so it was such a treat to have her come. She has sort of been my "go to" friend when it comes to baby stuff. Nathan is about 2 months older than Cole, so I always know that if I have questions, she has the answer. We had a great time spending time with the babies, so here are some fun pictures. As you can see, Nathan is such a smiley baby!
And by the way, Cole had a quick doctor's appointment yesterday, and he weighs 20lbs!!! Good Lord, he's a chunky monkey! He's pretty much wearing 12-18 month clothes so his closet of cute baby clothes is quickly diminishing....so sad!!!

Cousins

Cole, meet your second cousin Brady....

My Aunt Georgine (Brady's grandma) was holding Cole when Brady got jealous and wanted her to hold him too....quite a load!!

This is a picture of Nick and my cousin Lauren....she is hilarious...when she was about 3 years old she said to Nick "Nick, you're going to make me fall in love with you"...haha!!! Hilarious! She is now 5 and still likes her Nick.

Naked Time

With it being summer and quite warm, Cole has really enjoyed some naked time. Here are some pictures, the one in his exersaucer is pretty funny...

Great Grand-Parents

Nick, Cole and I made a trip to Colorado...we are still here actually. I came early with Cole and then Nick joined us a couple days later. We've had a great time, but as usual, it has gone way too fast. This past weekend, my grandparents from North Dakota came to visit for the long weekend so they could finally meet Cole. We all had a great time and I think they had fun spending time with a baby again. Their youngest grandchild is 5, so having another baby in the family is fun for them.
Here are some pictures of their visit.

We even got a funny video of Cole "talking" while sitting on Grandpa's lap...

Bad Mom??

So I guess there might be a theme to my posts lately (continue on and you'll understand why), but am I a bad mother that I let my son sleep in this??? Ooops!
Notice what's on his back???
Let me explain...he finally fell asleep and when I flipped him over onto his belly, I saw it...all smelly and brown. However, like I said, he finally fell asleep and I wasn't about to wake him to go change his diaper. Plus, he's on his belly so it's not like he's laying in it right? Please tell me I'm not the only bad mom out there...ha!

Beware!!!!

Warning: The post and pictures below may be a little disturbing. For those with sensitive tummies, I urge you to close window now!!

Let me start from the beginning....on Saturday, Nick and I experimented with giving Cole some avocado as his first "solid food". He was not quite sure about it and kind of fussed through most of it. The book that the doctor gave me said that when you start babies on solids, that their poo may stink more than normal. The good thing about him only being on momma's milk right now is that his poo doesn't really stink. Let the following picture give you an idea of what happened to us on Sunday.......

This was the grossest thing I have smelled in a LONG time. Normally I have to take over for Nick when changing poopy diapers because he almost gags, but I almost lost it this time! I can't believe that just a teaspoon or two of avocado can make this smell so bad.

Unconventional??

I guess I'm a little unconventional, but Nick and I found ourselves a new pediatrician, mainly because we were wanting to delay some of Cole's vaccines and most doctors don't allow you to do that. I found a pediatrician that does do it and when we went for his 4 month checkup, we discovered that she is amazing!! She is exactly what I was looking for and you can tell that she is very smart and knows a lot on vaccines. Apparently she does public speaking all around the DFW area too.
Now, Cole is not going to be one of those kids that is not vaccinated at all, he's just not going to get all his shots at once. Our pediatrician will only give him 2 shots at a time, compared to the normal 6. There are a few shots that she actually won't even do until he's older, like the MMR and hepatitis B shot, not till he's at least 2. It's amazing listening to what this doctor has to say, and with all the research I've done lately, I'm so excited that we are going with this schedule. I am pretty passionate about his subject, and I know some people are probably thinking I'm completely crazy....so if anyone wants more info, I'd love to share what I've learned.
The doctor also told us to start Cole on some solids. At first I wanted to wait till 6 months, but she said we should start with Avocados and sweet potatoes and wait till 6 months to start rice cereal. It should be a fun experience, starting him on solids....great pictures to come!!! I guess that's why I'm a little unconventional, because I've decided to sort of make my own baby food. Especially for now, I just have to mash up the fruits/veggies and plus, it's a lot cheaper. Hope he likes his new food!

1st Haircut and Grammy

At 4 months old, Cole has already had his first haircut.

My mom has been here all week, taking care of Cole and we decided that he needed to have a little hair trim, so my mom did a little clean-up and it turned out pretty good. I was a little hesitant to cut off his hair because it's so dang cute, but there were some really long hairs that needed tending to.
It has been absolutely wonderful having my mom here this week. We decided to have her come the last week of school because it has been absolutely crazy. Since I am the senior sponsor at school, I have so much going on for graduation stuff. Last Friday we went to Six Flags for the day, then senior pinning, graduation, etc. I've had to be gone several nights, leaving my mom and Nick to put him to bed. Yeah, Cole's not a big fan of the bottle when going to bed, so there was quite a bit of screaming going on those nights. He's just so used to his momma putting him to bed. However, we are starting to see some bad habits forming and that's why we are starting this "sleep training" thing. Basically Cole needs to learn how to self-soothe and then hopefully he'll stay asleep longer. We'll keep you posted on how it turns out.
My friend Sarita told me about this book called Sleepeasy Solution and it is such an awesome book, I highly recommend it if anyone out there is having sleep issues with their child.
Anyway....my mom leaves tomorrow and we are really going to miss her. She has been such a life saver. It's amazing how when I was staying home with Cole, I really managed to get hardly anything done during the day, but when she's home with him, she does all the laundry, cleaning and cooking....amazing! I guess it's years of experience.

Happy 4 Months Cole!!

Even though we are a few days late (with this being the end of the school year, it got pretty crazy), we want to wish Cole a happy 4 months!!
So Cole, what have you been up to?

  • You are huge, not much else I can say about that. You are in the 97% for height and weight
  • You weigh 18.5 lbs, you are pretty much the size of a 9 month old
  • You have regressed with your night sleeping, so as we speak, we are starting to "sleep train" you. Hopefully this will help you sleep longer than 3-hour spans during the night
  • You are wearing 9-12 month clothes
  • We are still trying to wean you from your swaddle blanket, but you sure love it!! We have one arm and both legs out, eventually we'll have all the limbs out. Quite funny!
  • It is the greatest thing I've heard yet, you've really started to giggle and laugh at people. Especially when they tickle you.
  • You absolutely love your jumper, now you just want to jump all the time, mom and dad sure are getting a good arm workout!
  • The doctor said we should start giving you some solid foods, but instead of starting with rice cereal, she said to start with avocados and sweet potatoes.
  • You love to babble and "talk" to us
  • You have been the sweetest baby, can't wait to see all the new things that happen this summer while I'm home with you!! Woohoo!!
