Baby update and THE cookie

Last week I went in for my regular monthly baby check-up. First, no weight gain which is great and because they are having to keep an eye on me because my slightly high glucose levels, they went ahead and did a sonogram just to make sure I didn't have excess fluids and that I didn't have a gigantic baby forming. :)
My doctor is the type that unless there is a huge need, he won't do sonograms. With Cole, I had my initial 8 week sonogram just to make sure the little blueberry was in there and then another at 20 weeks to find out the gender. I don't believe I had another one the entire time. Since that was my first pregnancy I didn't know any better but towards the end of my pregnancy I got a little nervous because none of us really had any clue how big this baby was going to be. All turned out swell and he was the perfect size.
However, since they have to keep a close eye on the size of this baby he will be doing more sonograms throughout the rest of the pregnancy AND, instead of going in monthly, I have to go in every 2 weeks now. Usually he won't make women go in every 2 weeks till they are in the last month or so....but I'm special.....booooo....this is when I DON'T want to be special!
At my last appointment, we did the sono and everything looked great! Baby is about 3lbs and in the 60-ish% which is totally normal. My fluid levels were great so he had no worries. He just really stressed that I HAVE to keep my blood sugar levels low, which I have. I haven't had any troubles with keeping them low as long as I follow my food plan...with an occassional cookie here and there :) Yesterday, Nick got to experience the "don't ever take a cookie away from a pregnant chick" dilema....after lunch I decided I wanted ONE girl scout cookie so I went into the freezer and got one. Nick came in from outside, saw the cookie on the counter with a bite taken out of it and took it, "nicely" yelled at me because I'm not supposed to eat that stuff, then decided to take it from me and eat it himself. Ok, literally, there was steam coming out of my ears at this point! Nick left, I had an emotional breakdown because I JUST WANTED TO EAT THE DUMB COOKIE (and yes tears were involved) and Nick received the silent treatment for a couple hours after that. He's a great husband and just looking out for me, but I know my limits.....and Nick, I may have to pound on you a little bit next time you do that! :)

Jammie update and our weekend

Last week, Nick and I were desperate to get some answers on getting Cole to stop taking his clothes off in the middle of the night, leaving us with a wet kid and bed to clean up every morning. We got great advice and here are the results.
We tried pull-ups, but he figured out that you can tear the sides away, therefore the diaper comes off. We tried putting the diaper on backwards, he still figured that one out. So....I ordered some Escapee-Jays!! They are jammies that zip up the back. Brilliant!! Why don't they make all jammies like this!?! They were a little pricey so I only ordered one pair and when those are in the wash, we also tried out the duct tape. Duct tape worked, my friends!! Just a small strip over the front and the diaper stayed put. So now we have a couple options to keep us dry during the night. Finally!
Here is a picture of what his new jammies look like from the back

Now onto our weekend. First off, the weather that we have been having over the last week or so......uh yes please!!!!! I mean, mid 70's!!! It has been absolutely perfect! If only it could be like this year-round. I hope you all are enjoying my optimism right now, because come July and August, this blog is going to become one giant complaint-fest!
Anyway....Friday night Nick was funally able to go see and hold baby Kaylee. Since he had been getting over the flu he stayed away from Ryan and Casey's house for awhile but by Friday he was definitely ready to go see her. Guys are funny....after about 5 minutes of holding her, Nick was complaining that his arm was sore, ha! So I "had" to take over for him. :)
Kinda some sad news for us....Ryan and Casey are going to be moving to Fairfield (90 miles south of Dallas) in a couple weeks for Ryan's new job. We all new this day would be coming, but I'm definitely not excited that it's coming so soon! :( I'm obviously sad for me and Nick because they have become such awesome friends but I'm also extremely sad for Cole because Lexie is like his big sister. They are definitely going to be missed....but enough about that before I start crying :(
Saturday morning, I caught Nick and Cole snuggling on Cole's nap mat. Cole got this new nap mat for his birthday and he loves laying on it while watching movies. Nick decided to lay on it with him. However, I did have to remind them that there was a big king-sized bed 3 steps away from where they were laying on the floor....but whatever, they look comfortable, right??

Saturday night we met up for a "family play date" with some friends. Beau and Stacey have introduced us to some of her mom-group families and it's been so fun getting the kids together to play and also have some adult time. We had a great time and can't wait for the next one! One of the girls, Kelly, started up a book club through their mom's group and even though I'm not in the group, she invited me to join her book club. I was so excited because I've always wanted to get involved with something like that, so I'm pretty excited!

Sunday after church and naps, I dragged Nick and Cole with me to an outdoor mall. Again, the weather couldn't have been nicer so the outdoor mall was calling my name. We went late afternoon, did a little shopping (by little, we went into one store....ha!), then just hung out and watched Cole play. Nick's parents also met us up there to have an early dinner with us. At the mall there is a little stream of water and these duck statues. Cole was hilarious, first trying to ride the giant duck.....

Then trying to give the giant duck some of his juice

And then giving the giant duck hugs and kisses. Isn't he sweet!

Since I'm having to be on a special diet the rest of the pregnancy, we went to Village Burgar Bar. I'm sure you are wondering how a burger fits into my diet, but trust me, it does! I basically have to have the right amount of carbs and protein in each meal so it works great. However, the giant basket of sweet potato fries that Nick and I usually share....I had to stay away from those, so sad! It really hasn't been too bad eating these certain foods. I never really feel hungry, but I sure do miss splurging with some sweets! My 4 boxes of girl scout cookies couldn't have come at a worse time! So, I stuck them in the freezer until I can enjoy them in a couple months.
It has been nice not seeing the scale go up, up, up!!! From my last appointment 4 weeks ago, I think I've actually dropped a few pounds. My goal is to not weigh more than my husband by the time I deliver this baby...haha!!!

27 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights

How Far Along: 27 Weeks
Size of Baby: 2lbs and about 14.5 inches long. About the size of a head of cauliflower
Total Weight Gain/Loss: Gained 14lbs, but hopefully that should be changing soon (I'll explain later)
Maternity Clothes: All pants and dresses are maternity now. Still wearing some regular shirts if they are long enough. I finally had to stop wearing regular dresses because the dress was pulling so much in my rear end to make room for the belly :)
Gender: Still a surprise!!!! But I'm still going with boy because I'm carrying the exact same way and had all the same symptoms as the first (just a little worse). Pretty much everyone thinks it's a boy, again, I'm just boy-mom material!
Movement: Lots of movements! Last week when I had to do another glucose test the baby about knocked me out of my chair he/she kicked so hard! Guess it was all the sugar. Luckily, I don't feel much movement at night so that doesn't keep me awake. Cole was the exact same way which is so funny!!!
Sleep: Starting to get uncomfortable, especially on the sides of my legs. I toss and turn all night long! When I was pregnant with Cole and going to the chiropractor regularily he told me to use a rolling pin on the sides of my legs so Nick is helping me out with that again this time and that helps a lot!
What I miss: Now....being able to eat whatever I want, whenever I want.
Cravings: Nothing really lately, my funny cravings are pretty much gone now
Symptoms: Feeling really good lately! Still really tired at night but that's nothing new. Last week I was having crazy heart palpitations that wouldn't go away so I went to our nurse at school to have her take my blood pressure and she said I was dehydrated! I guess I wasn't surprised with that because when I'm pregnant for some reason, I NEVER feel thirsty and don't drink enough water.
Best Moment of the week: Baby Kaylee Brooks Holler was born on Sunday and that was super exciting! This is Ryan and Casey's 2nd little girl and she was a BIG GIRL!!! 8lb 140z. I was at the hospital with the family for the day so it was a fun experience!

Last week I had to go take a 3-hour glocuse test because my first test came back "slightly" high. The 3 hour test sucked, I had blood taken 4 times and I couldn't eat or drink anything for like 18 hours. Well, the doctor called back and said my 2nd hour blood draw was again, "slightly" high but my numbers weren't high enough for them to call it gestational diabetes (ugh, I hate that word!!) BUT, I do have to go to a dietician and get on a stricter diet. I guess I'm not completely surprised because throughout most of my pregnancy I've been living off of carbs and that's definitely a no-no. I just really have to monitor that each meal and snack has the right amount of carbs/proteins because their only concern is that the baby will get too big. They said that is probably why I was measuring so much bigger.
When I was told this by the doctor, my first reaction was total embarassment because I felt like I was totally doing everything wrong and am a lot unhealthier than I thought I was. However, they reassured me that it has nothing to do with that, it's just the way the baby is reacting to my hormones and it will go away as soon as he/she is born. It still sucks though because my last pregnancy, I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted and all was ok. This time I'm really gonna have to watch everything I put in my mouth. Oh well, I guess they are good habits to get into and hopefully I won't be gaining too much more weight the rest of the pregnancy! :)

The past week

I've been slacking on the blogging lately, so I will fill you in on what's been going on with us this past week. After our 4 days of being couped up in the house from our snow/ice days we were definitely ready for a change of pace! Nick had no idea that we all had planned a surprise 30th birthday get together for him. We had some family in town for the super bowl and he thought we were just getting together with them for dinner. So, when all of our close family and friends were there to yell "surprise" he was pretty shocked!
This was my first ever surprise party that I had to plan and I was pretty nervous about it, especially with the weather we had been having. BUT, everyone was definitely ready to get out of their houses by Saturday so we had a great turnout.
Here are the guys enjoying a beverage with the birthday boy...cheers!

We are so thankful for such great family and friends, I know Nick had a great time!!! We even stayed out till about 1am and that is LATE for me! Whenever I would tell Nick that we should think about leaving, he would walk away and avoid me...haha!!! I could tell he was having fun and didn't want to leave. So, we were the last ones to leave :) Oh well, I'm just glad he had fun on his birthday. Thanks to everyone who helped out and came out...it was a blast!
Sunday we hung out and watched the Super Bowl at our house. Nick's dad was lucky enough that he got to go to the super bowl to watch his packers, so the rest of Nick's family came over to watch it with us. We also got to help Emily celebrate her 26th birthday that day!!! :)

I took this picture (sorry it was from my phone so horrible quality) because whenever Blake comes to our house, Cole LOVES playing with him. He was all about Blake Sunday night. So after Cole got his bath, we was running around without clothes on for awhile and next thing we know ( with some encouragement from me of course), Cole climbed up and wanted to cuddle with Blake, ha! To say Blake was a little uncomfortable with a naked toddler sitting next to him is an understatement! Poor Blake :)
We also had ANOTHER snow day this past Wednesday so we were stuck at home once again. We played next door for awhile just for a change of scenery but other than that, we just played around the house.
I took this picture of Cole taking his nap Wednesday. I'm not sure if this is just a boy thing or what, but we got a good laugh out of it!
On Wednesday night, Nick came home from work not feeling well. He had been battling bad sinus stuff lately but by Wednesday he had a fever and felt pretty miserable. He stayed home from work yesterday (which he NEVER does) and finally went into the doctor. They gave him a flu test and it came back positive. They put him on Tamaflu but it kinda just has to run its course.
Of course being pregnant, I knew it's super bad if I got the flu so I talked to my doctor and he wants me to take Tamaflu just as preventative. I was kinda nervous to take it with being pregnant, but I guess it's better than me being hospitalized with the flu!
I'm not sure if there was something in the Tamaflu but I took it before I went to bed and I swear I was on speed! I couldn't settle down till about 1:00am.
THEN, at 4:30 this morning I wake up to Cole crying. He never wakes up in the middle of the night so I knew something was wrong. My first thought was, "oh no, he caught the flu from Nick". I go into his room expecting to find a feverish, ill child, but what do I find instead??? A completely naked boy!! Yep, sometime during the night he had removed all his clothes, and diaper and wet himself ALL over. He was soaked and smelly and not happy. I got him as cleaned up as possible and threw him into bed with me hoping he'd fall back asleep. Nope! He sat in our bed and wanted to watch tv. However, this is what happened about 5 minutes after putting him in the car this morning.....

Not a great start to the weekend, but hopefully it gets better! We were supposed to go out with friends for a Valentines dinner tonight but obviously Nick is too sick. I may still go with them and just be the 7th wheel, ha! I feel super bad that I'm not being a better nurse to Nick and normally I would be, but it really would not be good for me to get the flu!! Flu+pregnant chicks=no bueno!!!

Ooohhh...the last few days

Before I get into our major cabin fever....let me start with this past Monday. Cole had his 2 year doctors appointment. It's so funny because he hasn't gained any weight in over a year! Here are his stats:
Weight: 30lb - 70 percentile
Height: 35.5 in - 74 percentile
Head: 20in - 94 percentile
So basically....our kid has a big head! :)

Everything else was great, he didn't get any shots so that was nice! She said we could do a polio shot, but currently there are no cases of polio in the U.S. There were over 400 cases in Russia so unless we were traveling to Russia, I think we are ok with that. She also said that if they did find a case in the U.S that we would just come in and get the shot...easy as that. Other than that, she was very pleased with what a fine young lad he was turning out to be :) hehe. AND, we don't have to go back in till he's 3!!

Ok....so onto our oh-so-fun last few days, stuck inside. You have to understand, whenever the news talks about there possibly being an "Arctic Blast" in the DFW area, typically you kinda chuckle and brush it off....these Texans just don't know how to handle a little winter weather. So, did I go to the store to get food? No. Did I rent movies in case we were stuck inside? No. Basically I did nothing to prepare for the last few days. I wish I could say that we were "snowed in" but it's actually iced in. I've never seen anything like it, literally everything has been shut down for 3 days. Nick has even been working from home and that hardly ever happens. There has been ice everywhere, about 3 inches thick. Yesterday was Nick's birthday and I had plans to make him a nice dinner but of course he wouldn't let me drive. Ugh.....to say we are getting cabin fever is an understatement!!!!
Yesterday, we were having controlled power outages, cutting our power for about 20 minutes here and there throughout the day. So, this is what our breakfast looked like yesterday morning...brrr!!!

Sadly, we had the bright idea to get our dogs groomed last weekend and they cut them a bit shorter than I'd like so the poor dogs have been freezing!!! Poor Benson has just been shaking and when he goes outside he won't go within a 3 feet of the door. When they are inside they are always finding pillows and blankets to cozy up to.

Who knows if we will have school tomorrow....this ice is just not melting!!! Plus, we are supposed to get more snow tomorrow morning. I bet this stuff doesn't melt till Saturday because that's the first day the sun is supposed to come out.

Luckily we were able to go play next door for awhile...but we are all itching to do something. And have I been motivated to do any cleaning since we've been cooped up?? Um no!!! We've just been playing a lot of Cole's new Wii dance game, playdough, more dancing, eating...and a few movies here and there. I never thought I'd say I'm ready to go back to work, but boy am I!!!

This weekend will be great, we have family coming into town for the super bowl and some fun things planned and we will for sure be ready to get out of the house!
